How does RF Microneedling work?

This treatment combines radio frequency and microneedling treatments into one device. It works by inserting tiny micro-needles into a certain depth, while simultaneously sending radio frequency energy into the channels created in the skin. Your body responds by sending collagen and elastin to not only heal the area but also the areas around it - eventually smoothing out minor scars, flattening out fine lines and wrinkles, as well as promoting elasticity in the skin.

What happens during my appointment?

After going through a few medical questions to ensure your suitability for treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Numbing cream is then applied to help minimise any discomfort. The numbing is then wiped away and the RF microneedling device will be used over the treatment area (typically the face and neck). The process usually takes just under an hour.

Is treatment painful?

Once the treatment begins most patients feel a little pinch each time the microneedles enter the skin, but with the use of numbing cream the treatment is quite tolerable. Everyone tolerates pain differently. Some people may find this treatment more uncomfortable than others.

Is there any downtime?

Following the procedure the skin is typically red and may have pinpoint bleeding for up to 24hrs. For a couple of days after your treatment, your skin might be a bit pink and visible signs of the micro channels may also be visible. Mineral makeup can be worn the day after your treatment. 2-5 days after your treatment your skin will feel a bit rough - this is normal. Your skin will be improved about 1 week after treatment (with results developing over the coming months).

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Your skin should be looking a lot better after one week post-treatment. However, dramatic results from the treatment (especially for wrinkle-reducing, skin tightening, acne scar lifting) may not be noticeable until anywhere from 1-3 months after you treatment. Optimal results are typically seen 3-6 months from the first treatment, and the skin continues to improve as the new collagen is produced.

How many treatments should I get for optimum results?

We recommended having a series of 3-4 treatments (with 4-6 weeks between each session) for best results.

Who cannot have this treatment?

We do not recommend this treatment if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of keloid scarring, take blood thinning medication, have an active skin infection, have certain skin allergies, or have a pacemaker, cardioverter, or superficial metal within the treatment area.

What should I do to prepare for treatment?

It is best to avoid alcohol and any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication prior to treatment as both may contribute to bruising following the procedure. Stop using products that contain salicylic acid (often found in facial cleansers) before the procedure. Please inform us if you are currently taking or have taken any blood-thinning medication as it may increase bleeding or bruising during and following the procedure.
